Direct Current Motors
Direct Current Motors
Since its foundation in 1970 as SSB Elektromaschinen GmbH & Co. KG and the later expansion as SSB Antriebstechnik, CEDS DURADRIVE also produces DC motors. Almost half a century later, CEDS can proudly look back on a wealth of experience in the design and manufacture of DC motors in this sector.
The DC motor consists of a stator and a rotating part, the armature, separated by an air gap. The armature is wound with coils which are connected to a commutator. During rotation, the polarity of the armature winding is changed via the sliding contacts (carbon brushes) running on the commutator, thus generating a constant torque.
A large area in which DC motors are still used are the pitch systems in wind turbines. Due to their design, DC motors in pitch systems can be moved and rotated to an installation-safe flag position in the event of a power failure by means of direct control by an accumulator.
If DC motors are used where relatively high positioning accuracy is required, servo technology can be integrated into DC machines. The additional module required for this is an encoder system, which can be in the form of a resolver, incremental encoder or frequently also an absolute encoder. This allows an exact speed of the motor to be read out and an exact position of the armature to be determined. In closed-loop operation, for example, this can be used to achieve synchronous operation of several drives or to achieve good positioning.
CEDS DURADRIVE DC drives represent individual solutions, both electrically and mechanically, which comply with customer specifications as well as legal requirements and are adapted to the climatic operating conditions. High degrees of protection or a durable surface protection against rough environmental conditions are not uncommon for us.
CEDS DC motors offer you special features, which are as follows:
- Very wide speed control range, additionally extendable by field weakening range
- Standstill loadable with nominal torque
- Short rise time due to small armature circuit inductance
- Very high rate of current change
- High overload capacity
- Cyclic operation with multiple nominal torque for acceleration possible, without influence on brush service life
- Direct battery emergency operation in case of power failure
- High starting torque
Fields of application
- Wind energy
- Positionings
- Synchronization systems
- Winding tasks
